Norfolk and the Chesapeake

We entered Norfolk about 6pm Tuesday. Massive Navy ships lined both sides of our route.

The decision was made to run all night through the Chesapeake. We entered the waypoints in the nav software and set off. Annie and Eric took the first shift and Tim and I came on watch about 2am. It was a calm beautiful night.

With Radar and AIS running, we were able to track ships and boats miles before they were visible. Great fun. The sun rose about 5:40am.

We are currently off Tilghman Island running towards Annapolis with an estimated arrival at 1pm.

Heading to Beaufort NC

In Carolina Beach NC last night. Nice marina. The run thru Myrtle Beach was an adventure. Everyone that owns a boat in SC must have been on it. The traffic was intense. Made it through the "rock pile" with no problems. A very narrow stretch of canal with nasty rocks on both sides.

Our best day of weather and mileage.

Ordered pizza from Dominos and watched the Cardinal game.

seaDee Marches to NJ

We left Green Cove Springs on Tues. May 22. The weather window we'd hoped for never materialized and we headed up the ICW rather than the route in the open Atlantic which would have saved 3 days. Consistent high winds from the NE even made crossing the sounds and bays an adventure. We're now in Georgetown SC. Covering about 100 miles a day, - in 12 hours. The trawler lifestyle. Seeing the world at 8 mph.

Some photos along the way:

May 20 - Our Trip North Begins

With Eric aboard (to make sure I don't get in to trouble) and my brother Tim, we are planning a May 20th departure from Green Cove Springs Fl on the way to Red Bank NJ. If the weather co-operates, we'll go off shore for the first 3 days with the first stop Beaufort NC. Updates and progress reports will be posted here.
